The national youth volleyball team of Latvia U-17 in the capital of Albania Tirana on Sunday, finished its performance at the European Championship in 8th place.

Yesterday, July 17, the Latvian U-17 volleyball players lost to the Bulgarian national team with a score of 1-3 (24:26, 28:30, 25:19, 22:25) and got the opportunity to continue the fight for 7th place.

Today, July 18, in the match for the 7th place, the Latvian national team lost to the national team from Belgium with a score of 1-3 (25:21, 15:25, 19:25, 22:25).

In the match against the Bulgarian national team, the most productive players in the Latvian national team were Christian Fockerot – 21 points and Kristers Lazdans – 17 points.

Recall that the final tournament was attended by 12 teams, which were divided into two subgroups of six teams each. Only two best teams from the group passed to the semifinals of the championship, and the owners of the 3rd and 4th places in the group continued their struggle for the 5th-8th place. The Latvian national team took fourth place in the group.

“We’ve come a long way. We spent a lot of time together, practicing and preparing well. If the game was a little better, we could be in fifth place, that would be optimal. Eighth? It is always unpleasant to end a tournament with a loss. A good achievement, but at the same time I wanted to achieve more, ”the head coach of the national team admits Marcis Obrumans.

As part of the Latvian national team at the European Championship, two residents of Daugavpil, pupils of the Daugavpils children and youth sports school – Armand Rokians and Nikita Dimitriev (coach Boris Cholokyan and Vladimir Prischep).
