The Ministry of Health asks to respond to doctors who are ready to help in the treatment of Covid patients

In order for medical institutions to attract additional resources of doctors who can help with their knowledge and skills in caring for patients with Covid-19, the Ministry of Health, together with the Health Inspectorate, urges doctors to respond and communicate their willingness to help.

Qualified doctors, nurses, paramedics, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, biomedical laboratory assistants, nurses, as well as residents, medical students who are ready to help and take on additional work can fill out a questionnaire, which is available since the spring of 2020.

This decision is based on the experience of other countries. In the questionnaire, a doctor or a future doctor indicates both his specialization and practical work experience, since it is necessary to understand what medical skills can be useful in caring for patients with Covid-19. It will also be possible to indicate to what extent and how the person is willing to participate, including providing psychological and technical support.

The Ministry of Health, predicting more patients with Covid-19 with a severe course of the disease, indicates that additional efforts may be required. The Health Inspectorate will collect the data from the questionnaire and send them to medical institutions. A medical institution will contact the person if necessary.

The questionnaire is available on the website “https://arka.vide.gov.lv/». To fill it out, you need to authenticate on the www.latvija.lv portal.

As the head of the Ministry of Health said today Daniel Pavluts, it is planned to involve all hospitals in the treatment of patients with Covid-19.

The politician stressed that today the number of patients hospitalized with Covid-19 exceeded 700, and in the near future it will reach 800 people, after which medical institutions will have to go into crisis mode.

Explaining the practical importance of an emergency in the medical field, Pavluts noted that medical institutions will have the right to freely dispose of their resources in order to provide assistance to patients with Covid-19, and in other acute cases. Hospitals will be able to attract staff with no experience in the infectious diseases ward to treat Covid-19 patients, in addition, they will be allowed to plan their work schedule differently, as well as to recall doctors from vacation.

The minister stressed that all those patients who are expecting planned services in the near future, the hospital administration will call and postpone the visit.

Despite the restrictions, patients will be provided with chemotherapy, biomedical therapy, organ replacement therapy, radiation therapy, hematological health services, methadone and buprenorphine replacement therapy.
