Last year, Mercedes debuted with the EQS model as an impressive all-electric luxury sedan. Now the German brand is launching a brand new seven-seater EQS SUV that weighs at the top of its segment.
The base Mercedes EQS 450+ uses one permanent-drive synchronous motor (PSM) on the rear axle with a total of 359 hp and 568 Nm.
Immediately after that, Mercedes positioned the EQS 580 4MATIC which uses one PSM engine on each axle for a combined power of 544 hp and 858 Nm.
It is noticeable that on both levels of equipment, the power is slightly higher than in the sedan.
Both versions of the SUV can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 31 minutes when connected to a DC fast charger.
Both have the ability to charge with a maximum power of 200 kW, so they are neither the fastest nor the slowest in the segment. When charging on an AC charger, both will charge their batteries in 11.25 hours.
Mercedes says the EQS SUV can travel more than 600 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. That total range is also significantly less than with the super aerodynamic EQS sedan, which can go up to 770 km.
Still, the EQS SUV should be able to provide 300km of range in just 15 minutes of charging, so it won’t always take long stops to get back on the road.
The Mercedes EQS SUV 450+ will come standard with a 12.8-inch information and entertainment screen and a 12.3-inch instrument screen.
It will also be delivered with a panoramic roof, heated and ventilated seats and the possibility of adding a third row for a total capacity of seven passengers.
The Mercedes EQS SUV 580 4MATIC will feature a giant MBUX Hyperscreen with its 56-inch curved glass.
At the back are 11.6-inch screens for each seat, with the option of adding a centrally placed tablet that essentially acts as an additional controller.
And yes, you can even remove it from the car and continue to use it within a reasonable range around the vehicle.
The EQS SUV also comes standard with AIRMATIC air suspension with an adjustable damping system, a DYNAMIC SELECT system that includes Comfort, Sport, Eco and Individual driving modes, as well as 10-degree rear axle control.
Regarding the driver assistance system, a driver assistance package with active DISTRONIC distance assistance, active lane holding and blind spot assistance, active stop and movement assistance, active steering assistance, active braking assistance with cross traffic function is available…
Up to seven different user profiles can be saved using the fingerprint scanner on the center console.
The idea is to tire the seat positions in the vehicle so that individual users can enjoy the content and comfort settings they personally prefer.
Mercedes is slightly taller and longer than rival SUVs. It is 5130 mm long, 1955 mm wide and 1727 mm high, so it should offer more interior space than the two main competitors – Tesla Model X and BMW iX.
The optional third row is another feature that we expect many customers to want. The second row of seats can be electrically adjusted back and forth up to 127 mm and, as a result, the knee space in the second row is between 838 and 965 mm.
Although there are still no official prices, we assume that the new Mercedes EQS SUV will be on sale at the end of 2022…
