The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) informs that the Austrian authorities have adopted new measures regarding the conditions of entry on the territory of the Republic of Austria in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the obligation to register online by completing a document called “Pre-Travel-Clearance – PTC” .

According to the MFA, the following categories of persons are exempted from the electronic registration measure by completing the PTC form: professional carriers of goods, commuters, persons in transit, persons participating in family events that cannot be postponed (for example: funeral ceremonies) .

Also, the quoted source points out that in addition to the obligation of electronic registration, until March 31, persons arriving in Austria, including Romania, will be placed in quarantine for a period of 10 days at home or in an appropriate location, immediately after entering the Austrian territory, with the costs incurred by the person concerned.

The quarantine measure may be suspended following the presentation of the negative result of a test for SARS-CoV-2 virus infection (PCR-RT type or antigen), performed no earlier than the fifth day after entering Austria, the costs being borne by the persons concerned. These measures also apply to tourists.

Persons arriving in the Republic of Austria from Australia, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Singapore and the Vatican are exempted from the quarantine measure and present supporting documents stating that in the last 10 days prior to entry into Austria were on the territory of those states.

They are also exempted from the quarantine measure, provided that a PCR-RT or antigen test for SARS-CoV-2 virus infection with a negative result is presented in German or English and taken no later than 72 hours before entering Austria, the following categories of persons: diplomatic personnel and employees of international organizations, personnel on humanitarian missions, persons entering for professional reasons, persons traveling for medical reasons and an accompanying person, with the presentation of supporting documents, persons arriving to meet a legal duty or mandatory administrative, such as filing subpoenas in legal proceedings.

In the absence of a negative test result, those persons and those living with them shall be required to undergo a quarantine period of 10 days at home or in an appropriate location, immediately after entering the Republic of Austria, with the costs incurred by the persons. concerned. The quarantine measure may be suspended following the presentation of the negative result of a test for SARS-CoV-2 virus infection (PCR-RT type or antigen) performed during the quarantine period.

Transit is allowed on a permanent basis, without stopping (overnight) on the territory of the Republic of Austria, without applying the quarantine / isolation measure or test for SARS-CoV-2 virus infection, if the trip to the destination state is justified. Thus, the authorities may request the presentation of documents to ensure entry into the state of destination: documents of domicile, residence, right of residence, employment contract or any other proof of the need for entry, for example certificate of necessary medical treatment, studies, etc. .

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds that Romanian citizens can request consular assistance at the telephone numbers of the Romanian Embassy in Vienna: 0043 1 503 24 65 and 0043 1 505 23 81, the calls being redirected to the Contact and Support Center of Romanian Citizens Abroad (CCSCRS) and taken over by Call Center operators, on a permanent basis.
