The main hotspots in the Donbass named

About 76% of all ceasefire violations in 2020 in Donbass were recorded in four “hot spots” on the contact line. This is stated in the report of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission, published on Monday, February 15.

“Most of the cases of armed violence recorded in 2020 were concentrated in four“ hot spots ”along the contact line (about 76% of all recorded ceasefire violations),” the report said.

We are talking about the Popasnaya – Pervomaisk – Zolote region, the Avdeevka – Yasinovataya – Donetsk airport triangle, areas to the east and north-east of Mariupol and areas to the south-west, south and south-east of Svetlodarsk.

At the same time, in general, in 2020, the number of ceasefire violations recorded along the contact line decreased by 55% compared to 2019. However, the number of explosions caused by the use of weapons, which must be withdrawn according to the Minsk agreements, according to the OSCE, decreased by 5%.

At the same time, a decrease in combat activity was recorded after the introduction of additional ceasefire measures in July. Since then, the average daily rate of such violations “decreased by almost 20 times” (623 violations versus 23, respectively).

As for the violations of the silence recorded outside the security zone, they were mainly assessed “as those related to the conduct of live-fire exercises.”

In 2020, the SMM recorded about 1,800 such violations (almost 1.4% of all ceasefire violations recorded by the mission), of which approximately 77% occurred in the temporarily uncontrolled territories of Donbass.
