The love of computer games starts with the family

When it comes to computer addiction, they usually talk about teenagers. But addiction does not appear suddenly and immediately. There is a stage of so-called pre-addiction that is often overlooked. To see pre-addiction, you need to look at the time when children are just starting school. Parents focus on the child’s learning outcomes, and his emotional sphere fades into the background. The gadget becomes a friend, a nanny, a door to the world where you can compensate for the failures of real life.

Employees of the Don State Technical University and the Crimean Federal University studied the psychological state of children from six to ten years old; the study involved 215 children and 85 parents. In families where parents at least had a desire to develop children’s activity, where adults were interested in their emotional experiences, children were less attracted to computer games. Along the way, psychologists once again confirmed that low and inadequate self-esteem in children occurs in families where there is no openness in communication and where an authoritarian type of upbringing with hyper-control over the child prevails.

In other words, if the emotional contact between children and adults is too superficial, virtual reality becomes a place where you can escape from family problems, hide from anxiety and loneliness. All or at least the majority of parents love their children, but it is better that this love is not manifested in naked verbal declarations and does not acquire the character of a barter, when obedience is demanded in exchange for toys, sweets, pocket money, etc. Obviously, the problem is not new. , only earlier, children escaped from the emotional deafness of adults either into the yard life, or into an imaginary world. With the advent of computer games, dealing with emotional inattention has become easier.

The research results were published in the conference proceedings “Interagromash-2021”
