“I will not allow myself to gag my mouth with nefarious threats. I will also not be silent on matters important to me” – stated councilor Marta Grzeszczyk from Łódź, informing that she was withdrawing from Law and Justice.
Marta Grzeszczyk published a statement in the social media, in which she wrote that during 11 years of her political activity, no one threatened to lose her job because of her activity or views. She added that this changed on February 12.
“Huddled in a small, stuffy room, among others, members of the Lodz Law and Justice Board gave me a cowardly ultimatum. Holding my statement on the judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal published during the Women’s Strike and referring to my last interview on Radio Lodz, in which I maintained my position ‘that the law cannot force women to be heroic’ I was told that ‘one phone call separates me from dismissal’ so I should think carefully about what I will say next in public, ‘she said.

“I will not allow myself to gag my mouth with nefarious threats. I will also not be silent on matters important to me” – she declared.
Grzeszczyk added that due to the number of matters with which she did not agree, she had been maturing for a long time to decide to leave PiS. “This ultimatum spilled the cup. Therefore, from now on, I go my own way – without a party and without a club. Without people who cannot bear my determination and professional approach to work in the local government. I will not waste my term of office standing in the corner” – she wrote.
Marta Grzeszczyk also stated that her statement meant “with great probability” that she would lose her job and that this was her last term in the City Council in Łódź. “However, recent events have finally convinced me that living in harmony with my views away from toxic people is the most important thing for me,” she said.
Grzeszczyk is a third term councilor. In 2010, she was elected from the Civic Platform lists, and later removed from the party along with a group of other councilors. She applied for another mandate from the PiS list.
Radio Łódź reported that the local party authorities did not comment on the council’s statement.
