The largest hospital in the southeast, equipped with a rare device for fragmentation of kidney stones

Bright lights at the end the hospital corridor. The concept of life and death.

An ultra-performing equipment for the fragmentation of kidney stones was purchased for the County Hospital in Galați. It is one of the few devices in the country that breaks kidney stones with the help of high energy ultrasonic waves.

Experts say that almost 90% of patients with kidney stones can be treated with this high-performance medical equipment.

The value of the investment is two million lei, funds from the own budget of the Galati County Council.

“The County Hospital was equipped with one of the most advanced medical equipment in the country for treating patients with kidney stones. It is a complex equipment, equipped with the latest technology, which breaks the kidney stones with the help of high energy ultrasonic waves. The procedure is minimally invasive and considerably reduces complications and side effects for patients. The hospital did not have such medical equipment, so patients were sent to other medical centers. Due to the technology it is equipped with, kidney stones are fragmented into very small pieces, so the risk of kidney blockage is eliminated “, said Costel Fotea, president of the Galati County Council.

The system consists of an ultrasonic wave generator, a radiological device with mobile arm, electrically operated work table, ultrasound, an external unit for analyzing images obtained using the radiological device and a control station for all equipment.

As the system consists of a radiology device, its operation requires an authorization from the National Commission for the Control of Nuclear Activities.
