The accused in the murder case of Awami League leader in Gaibandha were released on bail and physically abused his daughter. According to family sources, an Awami League adviser of Fulchhari Upazila of Gaibandha was stabbed to death on February 9 over a dispute over land. The family filed a case against 26 people including Hasmat Dewan. The accused, including Hasmat, were released on bail from the High Court and stormed and vandalized the Awami League leader’s house on Wednesday (March 3rd).
The victim’s family alleged that the girl, who had confessed to the torture, was taken home by some youths, including China Begum, sister of accused Hasmat Dewan, when she went to pick corn leaves in the field on Thursday afternoon. There he was physically abused and later left in a corn field in critical condition. Fulchhari police were informed to rescue the victim. But the relatives of the victim complained that they did not get any response from the police. After lodging a complaint on 999, the police were forced to go to Fulchhari police station and rescue the girl in the evening. He was later admitted to Gaibandha District Hospital as he was seriously ill.
