Have you ever felt that you had the maximum of bad luck? Such misfortune that only God himself may have assigned you, as punishment for an injustice earlier in life? That is what this chronicle is about.
This is a chronicle. This means that the content is the writer’s own opinion.
We’ll follow mine friend David who bought a brand new dark gray Ferrari 812 Superfast for almost four million. He picked it up in the morning. Before the day was over, the car would, through a series of accidents, be ready for a real workshop visit.
Are you prepared? Because now it will be really expensive.
David is working on a Swiss bank in Southeast Asia. He is doing well, and he gets a nice bonus every year. He puts this bonus on cars. Cars that he buys and owns at home in Italy. Work in Singapore and drive a car in Europe. That’s David’s life.
On August 15 this year, David’s new pearl will be delivered, at Ferrari in Milan. It’s right in the middle of David’s vacation. As he has longed for! For over a year. He and his girlfriend have planned a road trip to Lake Como in detail in honor of the day.
In Milan it is shining sun. A perfect summer day without a cloud in the sky. It’s just after ten in the morning. The car is covered. Then the couple drives south.
After a few hours they are in Bellagio, on Lake Como. Here they stop for lunch at Villa Serbelloni. (Good choice!) After the meal, the journey continues along the lake south towards Lecco. It’s after Lecco everything happens. That which will completely turn David’s perfect day upside down. Welcome to Hell. What would you have done to deserve this?
After Lecco begins a motorway, also to the south. Here the gates of heaven open. The rain is pouring down. The traffic on the motorway is going at a snail’s pace. Then the traffic stops completely. His nice Ferrari is sandwiched in the middle lane. To the right is a truck. In front and behind are other cars.
Suddenly a loud bang is heard on the ceiling. It’s almost as if a golf ball hit. This thump is followed by a few more. Then a period of waiting. Silence. Before thousands of balls of ice fall from the sky. They hit the stationary cars on the highway with a terrible force. There will be large dents in the roof and hoods. A rearview mirror is smashed. Some windows break. On the truck next to David’s car, the balls of ice pass completely unhindered on the tarpaulin on the flatbed and also break the load. It’s Armageddon. In the Ferrari, David shouts loudly in pain that his new car is being massacred.
After a few minutes is the hailstorm over. As suddenly as it began, it becomes quiet. There is still a light rain. A quarter of an hour later, the traffic begins to move. Now they would soon be at the hotel. Think David, and above all his terrified girlfriend. However, it will first get worse. Much worse.
They drive off the highway, and are now on a small country road. Then they come to what they think is a large pool of water. Without thinking, David drives straight through. It then turns out that the pool of water is much deeper than he could have imagined. The road has been flooded by the heavy rain. Soon his new Ferrari is wading in half a meter high water. Water is leaking into the passenger compartment. As if by a miracle, however, the engine manages, and like James Bond with his underwater Lotus, they drive out of the water on the other side. Shocked. But well kept.
They now have less than one kilometer left to the hotel, located in Franciacorta. Now nothing can go wrong, can it? Yes, it can. It’s still rainy. It’s really windy. With only 50 meters left, a smaller tree falls over the car. It lands on the rear window and then slides with its own power over the rear of the car. The sound of bark and branches against Ferrari’s paint is something from a horror movie.
One minute later they park in front of the hotel. After checking in, they return to the car. Now the storm is gone. In just a few minutes, while they spent getting their room key at the front desk, the weather has changed diametrically. No more rain or hail. No more wind. No more clouds. Now it is suddenly blue sky again.
It was as if God himself wanted to punish David. He had done something terrible and now it was time to pay. Notan? The car had 491 (!) Dents and a broken rear window. But no major water damage.
In total, it cost over 135,000 euros to repair. It took eight months and the car is now the only 812 Superfast in the world that has a, in a classic way, hand-knocked body. It is in perfect condition.
