The increase in the number of cases of covid-19 in the Czech Republic accelerated further on Friday. There were 8782 more infected, which is about 160 more than a week ago. Compared to the previous Friday, the share of new cases of the disease in the total number of tested also increased slightly to 29.81 percent. This follows from data on the website of the Ministry of Health. The number of hospitalizations decreased to 5,761. The number of deaths of people with covid-19 during the entire epidemic on Friday exceeded 18,000.
Since the first confirmed cases of coronavirus infection appeared in the country last March, 18,058 infected people have died. The daily number of deaths in recent days has been around 120. Casidid-19 cases have been reported in 1,082,849 cases throughout the epidemic in the country.
On Friday, about 31,000 PCR tests for coronavirus and almost 35,000 antigen tests were performed. The share of positive tests has been declining in recent days. It still reached almost 34 percent on Monday. Despite the decline, it was still almost 30 percent higher on Friday than a week ago.
According to the ministry’s statistics, the number of people with covid-19 in hospitals fell by almost two hundred compared to last Friday to 5,761, of which 1,088 are in serious condition. However, the statistics do not include patients who do not show coronavirus symptoms after ten days, although they remain in hospitals. Hospitals in the Czech Republic are currently overloaded due to the epidemic. As of Saturday, according to the ministry, only 16 percent of beds in ARO and intensive care units were vacant throughout the country, and only 27 percent of capacity was available in standard oxygen beds.
For example, in the Hradec Králové and Karlovy Vary regions, only about a tenth of standard oxygen beds are currently vacant. In the Karlovy Vary region, moreover, ARO and ICU beds are only on six percent of the total capacity. There are 12 percent of them in the Hradec Králové Region.
In recent weeks, the most covid-19 has spread in the Trutnov region in the Hradec Králové region and in the Cheb and Sokolov region in the Karlovy Vary region. In the Trutnov region, more than 1,200 infected people have grown per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days, which is the most of all regions, and in the Cheb and Sokolovská regions, almost 1,100 have been infected. The districts of Cheb, Sokolov and Trutnov are closed from Friday due to the rapid spread of the disease.
It has been vaccinated against coronavirus in the Czech Republic since 27 December. So far, over 442 thousand doses of vaccines have been given on Friday evening, and almost 159,000 people have received both required doses. About 17,600 doses of vaccine were given on Friday, about 2,000 more than the previous Friday. Nearly 13,000 people received a second dose of the vaccine on Friday.
