The house with swimming pool in Brazil between craftsmanship and desire for summer

A house with swimming pool with simple luxury, to welcome guests inside a large property in the Bahia region in Brazil. This is the essence of the project of GN Architecture for an L-shaped outbuilding that embraces a swimming pool with solarium in the middle of a luxuriant setting tropical gardene.

The two sides of the house appear at the antipodes: the one in which the three bedrooms with en suite bathrooms are located is a parallelepiped with a flat roof and is entirely covered in eucalyptus lamellas, to let out the too violent light and heat. The one devoted to the banquet, with kitchen and large living room with dining room, has a slightly inclined pitched roof a fully glazed wall, to be opened to connect interiors and exteriors.

The studio took care of the interior design Maresca Interiors, a duo made up of the Italian-Brazilian sisters Elena and Cecilia Maresca. Their idea is based on the creation of a space to «switch off and reconnect with nature». And it is precisely nature that has guided their hand in the design of the furniture that define the living area: the large table with a glass top and a centuries-old trunk as a base, the wooden chairs and stools, the stone snack counter, the suspension lamps in woven fiber.

The lines reinterpret those typical of local manufacturing, the materials chosen are all easily available in the area. The designers explain: «The limitations have been transformed into opportunities. The use of natural raw materials and high local craftsmanship has allowed a winning relationship with the architecture and the origins of the site ». The works of art by Carioca creatives and the objects made by the tribes of the Amazon and hung on the walls also help to create a deep connection with the place.

The long and narrow kitchen has been treated as a service space and is completely separate from the living room. On the one hand, under the large windows, the functional part has been organized, with a worktop, sink and stove. Along the opposite wall are tall container columns and the refrigerator. The particular finish of the eucalyptus furniture takes up the facades of the sleeping area, designed for rest and privacy. In the no-frills rooms, the four-poster bed with a romantic mosquito net, gentle and massive at the same time, is the absolute protagonist.
