The high degree of security of energy supply eliminates the possibility of black out

A meeting convened by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Pantelis Kapros, concluded that this year a high level of security of energy supply and preparedness to deal with any emergency situations has been achieved in order to establish the level of security of energy supply ahead of the summer season, when load peaks are expected .

Representatives of the System and Electricity Network Operators and RAAEF participated in the meeting.

According to the information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

The technical availability of the power generation units is excellent and the total available power is completely sufficient to cover the load even under adverse heat conditions and at the same time, limited production from RES, according to scenarios presented by simulation by ADMIE. The new “Ptolemaidas 5” and “Agios Nikolaos 2” units are expected to be fully operational, as well as all the lignite and natural gas production units. In addition, 1390 MW of new RES capacity was added from June 1, 2022 to date.

Regarding any operational difficulties related to reserves, congestion and local problems that may arise, the Administrators have drawn up plans to deal with them, while preparedness exercises have also been carried out.

During the last two years, intensive pruning and cleaning have been carried out, in order to minimize the risks that may arise due to problems from potential fires. In addition, the Operators have already taken actions to ensure sufficient power generation potential, as well as reserves on the islands.

Finally, a permanent information and coordination system was agreed upon and implemented between the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Administrators and the Regulatory Authority to deal with any incidents during the summer season.
