Looking for a new job after losing one, and moreover in full Covid-19 emergency, is a difficult undertaking, bordering on the impossible. If you are an exponent of the 5 Star Movement, however, you can count on some friends to give you a hand. The last case in a list that gets longer and longer month after month is that of Antonio Trevisi.
Trevisi, regional councilor in Puglia in the last legislature, did not obtain reconfirmation in the last electoral round. In fact, the 5 Star Movement in the September consultations obtained only 11 per cent of the votes and had five directors elected. A sharp drop compared to the 2015 round in which he obtained 18 percent of the votes, with eight of his representatives elected. And among those who have lost their job there is Antonio Trevisi.
Not bad for him: in just two months he found another job, and also well paid. In fact, starting from December 2, Trevisi was hired by the undersecretary to the presidency of the Council Riccardo Fraccaro. For him, the post of “Councilor on sustainable development” was obtained in the offices of direct collaboration with the undersecretary. A contract worth one hundred thousand euros a year that will expire with the fall of the government.
Trevisi, who has a PhD in Energy Systems and Environment and was in the past “Energy manager” at the University of Salento and in the municipality of Casarano (15,000 inhabitants in the province of Lecce) is a long-time grillino: entered the first meetups in 2007, in 2013 he ran for mayor in the municipality of Monteroni, thirteen thousand inhabitants in the Lecce area. Having failed the assault on the tricolor band with just 5 percent of the preferences (492 votes), Trevisi tries again at the aforementioned Apulian regions of 2015. Here he comes eighth among the 5-star candidates and, at first, is excluded from the elected. After an appeal to the TAR, however, the seat is returned to him.
In the meantime he also continues his career within the 5 Stars, with the appointment in the “Team of the Future Environment and Energy”, one of the groups of “facilitators” who should educate and update the elected officials in the various institutions on specific issues. And his friendship with Riccardo Fraccaro also continues, who in 2020 will participate as a guest at the Ecofuturo festival in Santa Maria di Leuca and that Trevisi defines as follows in a post on Facebook: “The lighthouse aims to give a strong light signal in the darkness to find the right direction. Today, I believe the 110% SuperBonus can represent a beacon for our country to get out of an economic, social and health crisis that has lasted for decades. Riccardo Fraccaro is the light of this lighthouse who yesterday enlightened us during Ecofuturo festival in Santa Maria di Leuca with his extraordinary foresight ».
The case of Trevisi is just the latest in a long list made up of members of the 5 Star Movement who, after failing the polls, found a new job in the institutions. A legal practice but harshly criticized by the original 5 Star Movement. In 2012, just to cite one example, Beppe Grillo’s blog published indignant comments against the practice of “arranging trumpets with sub-government positions”.
In fact, before this case, the 5 Stars who came to the government had already chosen many activists who failed the polls from their ranks of collaborators, paid by the ministries. Luigi Di Maio, when he was Minister of Labor and Economic Development, had hired the former 5-star parliamentarian Giorgio Girgis Sorial as his deputy head of cabinet (110 thousand euros per year), alongside the former candidate for the regional in Friuli-Venezia Giulia Francesco Vanin. Vito Crimi, as undersecretary with responsibility for publishing, had instead taken in his team as head of the secretariat the former 5-star parliamentarian who was not re-elected Bruno Marton. On the other hand, the career of former Iena Dino Giarrusso, candidate and not elected in Parliament, had made more sensation, he was hired as a consultant first in the staff in the Lazio region of Roberta Lombardi and then at the Miur then led by Lorenzo Fioramonti: positions then left with the elections in the European Parliament.
Even at the local level, the practice once so criticized by the 5 Star Movement has been applied with some frequency: in the municipality of Rome, led by the mayor 5 Stelel Virginia Raggi, the former mayor was added to the payroll in the various staff of councilors. from Livorno (later rejected in the European elections) Filippo Nogarin and former parliamentarian Dario Tamburrano.
