The government would spend EU funds on the environment and energy efficiency for this

Of the HUF 1,600 billion in EU funding for environmental protection and energy efficiency, the government will allocate only HUF 49 billion to environmental and nature protection over the next seven years.

RTL Híradó has obtained a government document stating that in the next seven years it would direct a total of HUF 1,596 billion from the funds available from the EU to the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Operational Plus Fund.

Of this, € 677 billion would be spent on renewable energy investments such as solar investments, € 392 billion on circular economic systems and sustainability, mainly to renew waste management, and € 190 billion on catching up with coal-bearing regions. On the other hand, only 3% of the budget, 49 billion, would be spent on environmental and nature protection. 288 billion has been earmarked for water management and disaster risk reduction, including the purchase of fire trucks.

According to the Hungarian Association of Nature Conservationists, it is only sketchy what the government would spend on, but it is clear that the interests of the energy industry dominate and the government would spend mainly green money on investments. At the same time, the NGO believes that the priorities are good, but much more should be spent on nature conservation than is currently outlined.

And energy-efficient renovations of residential buildings would require non-refundable subsidies for people to dare to engage in such renovations.
