Prague – According to the Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch (for YES), the resigned government wants to wait with further measures for the development of the covid-19 epidemic. According to him, data from this week will show whether the decline will continue or whether there is a risk of stagnation and the so-called Table Mountain, when the number of diseases will be roughly the same for a long time. A decrease in the number of hospitalized is waiting around Christmas. He said this at a press conference after the government meeting. Due to continued isolation after a positive coronavirus test, he joined him online.
“Developments in recent days have become more stagnant,” the minister said. In the last four days, laboratories have always caught several thousand fewer positive samples than a week ago. On Sunday, there were 6325 cases compared to last week with 9301.
That is also why the government will not come up with new measures yet. “It would probably not be appropriate to take any drastic new measures if there is stagnation or decline,” the minister added. According to Vojtěch, the question is whether further tightening currently makes sense, because the example of Slovakia shows that a strict closure does not lead to a slowdown in the epidemic.
According to Vojtěch, the relative positivity of the tests is also declining, although it is still at around 35 percent, which is about three times more than it should be for the epidemic to be under control. “It’s not something we can take as the end of this wave. We have to wait, especially this week, if the trend confirms,” he added.
According to Vojtěch, the new measures introduced by the government since November 26 are still relatively fresh, so they may only become effective. The Christmas markets have been closed and the restaurant must close at 22:00. At the same time, since the beginning of November, people who have not recently undergone covid or are not vaccinated are not allowed in them.
According to Vojtěch, the situation in hospitals is not improving yet. 6,300 hospitalizations were reported on Sunday, but cases are reported several days ago. Last Monday, there were originally less than 6,400 patients with covid-19 in hospitals, and after the announcement, there are more than 7,000 at this date today.
