Prague – Representatives of the hotel and gastronomy industries will discuss the future of the industry with government officials today at 10:00 in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. The legitimacy of the decision to close operations or the date of their reopening will be discussed. The online debate will take place from 10:00 within the HOREKA 112 project.
The government will be represented by Minister of Finance Alena Schillerová, Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček (both for YES) and former Minister of Health, epidemiologist Roman Prymula. Václav Stárek, President of the Association of Hotels and Restaurants, Tomáš Prouza, President of the Association of Trade and Tourism, and Luboš Kastner, the guarantor of the Moje restaurace project on behalf of the Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Tradesmen, will speak from professional organizations. Chef and owner of Perfect Canteen Filip Sajler will also speak in the discussion.
According to Nielsen, the gastronomic industry loses 414 million crowns in sales every day. For the whole of last year, Nielsen expected a fall of up to 70 billion crowns in November.

Consumption in accommodation services associated with tourism may fall from 56 billion crowns to 26 billion crowns last year, according to the Economic Impact analysis for the state agency CzechTourism.
Accommodation facilities may not be used for recreational purposes from 18 December. Catering establishments from the same date can only sell snacks through the dispensing windows, currently exclusively between 05:00 and 20:59. Restaurants and hotels had to face three closures last year due to the government’s decision to fight coronavirus.
