The future is not late … –

By Iordanis Karatsis

We are flooded every day with news that reports on new technology, developments and discoveries that promise to change the future. And when we think about the future, a distance comes to our mind 5, 10, 20 years from now. But is this the reality? The evolution of technology now has one exponential trend and this means that the growth rate is constantly increasing. The world will change in the coming years more than in the past as emerging technologies create new data. Therefore all that we consider the future it is finally much closer than we think!

Let’s look at their field smart devices. We hear about Internet of Things, connectivity, sensors everywhere, concepts and terminology that still seem far away. The vision for man is to be at the center and his environment to function almost autonomously, to his advantage. For example, the refrigerator at home will monitor the level of products we have set and with specific rules will send orders to the relevant stores. The stores will collect the products and will send them by drone which will leave them on the balcony of our house on the day and time we have set us or our digital assistant who monitors our program. How far does such a scenario seem to you? The truth is that it is not a scenario but a reality as it is already being piloted in several cities by large companies. You can do a search for Drone Package Delivery Market and you will be surprised with the results you will see!

The analysis company Gartner had made a prediction how by 2020 would have been connected approximately 20 billion devices on the internet. THE Cisco predicts for 2021 27.1 billion devices. Other companies predict in the long run 83 billion by 2024! And to confirm the exponential growth rate, let us mention that the concept of Internet of Things first appeared in 1999 with the first “connected” device, one LG home refrigerator, to display the 2000. By 2010 some small and steady steps were taken and then the crazy growth rate began to increase with the curve converging towards the vertical axis. And some more statistics, 127 new IoT devices connect to the internet every second while for 2020 63% of the connected devices were consumer products.

What are the scenarios for the evolution and future of mobile phones? There will always be evolution in the material. New processors, better cameras with larger sensors, faster network, integration into glasses, headphones or other objects we have permanently on us, folding screens, better batteries. However, the great evolution and the battle of the manufacturers will be in the field of software and applications. The one who will be the first to provide it to the user ultimate management experience of the whole technological ecosystem that surrounds him will be the “leader” of the next day. The software has no limitations and now the hardware can support even the craziest fantasy scenarios. And such a scenario is a unified console, which will be also available from mobile and with which the user, in addition to having one consultant with artificial intelligence and with whom it will interact, it will be able to “manage” beyond calls, social media, home lights etc all its devices that are connected to the internet. And management for any device that works with energy means organization based on our daily schedule, automation based on our habits, operation forecast based on statistics and information from the internet.

The forecasts for the coming years focus on the development of devices and applications in the following areas that concern our daily lives:
Home automation: increase the available smart devices beyond kitchens, lighting, vacuum cleaners, scales, etc. The main goal is now a combination of equipment with user-friendly and easy-to-use applications and AI assistants (AI-powered voice assistants) with the user experience (UX) to be the primary concern.
IoT wearables: increase the capabilities of wearables beyond fitness trackers, smartwatches, etc. Integration of new sensors and development of new applications for recording and managing our environment.

Truth, in how many years do you believe how we will be able to manage all, but all our devices from one mobile? And we are not talking about a simple on / off but about control, information, status changes, forecasting and automation. We are waiting for your prediction and when the time comes that the scenario we describe will be a reality we will come back to see how much earlier it happened than you predicted!
