The Scrap program is the main factor that contributes to the purchase of new cars in Romania. Therefore, the news that the funds allocated to this program have been exhausted is not good for car dealers. Until the installation of a full-fledged government at Victoria Palace, the Administration of the Environment Fund (AFM) will not be able to count on a budget rectification that will allow it to allocate new funds for this program.

However, hopes that the Scrap program will be supplemented have not been lost. AFM and the Ministry of Environment are trying to identify new sources of funding, according to a press release sent by AFM.

“For the Classic Scrap Program, the enrollment rate remained high, which led to additions during the year. For this program, the value allocated to individuals in 2021 is 510 million lei, which was fully reserved, requiring an additional new one “, said the president of AFM, Lorand-Arpad Fulop.

According to the quoted source, considering the fact that, at present, the budget allocated to individuals within the Classic Scrap Program is exhausted, AFM and MMAP are analyzing the identification of some financial resources necessary for new allocations.

AFM data shows that at this year’s edition of the Classic Scrap Program, which started on April 26, about 52,000 individuals registered by mid-October. They bought 35,890 cars and 305 motorcycles, to which are added another 6,742 cars and 8 motorcycles bought by economic agents.

Under this program, the value of the scrapping premium is 7,500 lei, and the value of eco-bonuses granted to stimulate the purchase of cars as polluting as possible, depending on the technology used, are 1,500 lei – for low-emission vehicles, respectively 3,000 lei for the purchase of a new vehicle equipped with a hybrid propulsion system.

Eco-bonuses can be accumulated if the new car meets both conditions, thus reaching a discount of 12,000 lei from the total price of the new vehicle. For the purchase of new motorcycles in exchange for handing over a scrapped used vehicle, a scrapping premium of 5,500 lei is granted.

The last time the Scrap program was supplemented was in August. A recent change in the Scrap program has given more time to those who want to buy a car through the Scrap Program.
