The design of the problematic four-lane section of the road to Nicgale on the Daugavpils-Riga state highway will begin next year, the Minister of Transport Talis Linkites promised during his recent visit to Daugavpils.

After that, construction work will be carried out on a completely broken section of the state road. True, no one dares to name the specific dates and dates of these works. The minister does not know these terms either.

During his one-day visit at the end of last week, Talis Linkites met with the leadership of the newly formed Augšdaugava region and discussed the most pressing issues and problems.

The main issue discussed with the head of the ministry was the condition of roads in Latgale region and in the region, in particular. This is not the first time the state of the patched and completely broken road in the direction of Riga on the section to Nitsgale has been discussed with the minister.

The Minister stressed that last year additional funds were allocated in the amount of 75 million euros and this year about 100 million euros in order to repair old and build new roads in Augšdaugava region.

In addition, according to the head of the Ministry of Transport, within the framework of the administrative-territorial reform, local governments will soon be allocated a total of 55 million euros to improve the condition of local roads.

So the serious problem with the section to Nicgale of the Daugavpils – Riga road can also be solved. It is not yet known exactly when this will happen.

The company Latvijas Valsts ceļi announced earlier that the repair of a four-lane road near Daugavpils, according to preliminary estimates, requires about 50 million euros. At the moment, the enterprise does not have funds either for the technical project or for the repair itself.
