The firstborn of the new brand will be the Ioniq 5 hatchback – DRIVE

January 13, 2021

The most interesting thing about Ioniq electric cars for us is that they will be sold in Russia as well. And it will happen this year. This was announced by representatives of the Russian office of Hyundai at a special online conference.

Ioniq – separate the brand Hyundai, which was announced last summer and under which electric vehicles will be produced. To begin with, three models will be prepared, including a hatchback Ioniq 5, a large sedan Ioniq 6 and a crossover Ioniq 7. The first from this list will be “five” – the debut is scheduled for February 2021. In the meantime, they shared with us teasers of the production model, the forerunner of which was the concept car. Hyundai 45… The car has in common with him the general style, front and rear pixel optics and wheel design. The latter for the Ioniq 5 electric car will be 20-inch. The Koreans also announced that the Ioniq 5 will be the first car of the concern with a hood that goes over the fenders, like, for example, cars Mini.

Ioniq 5 with McPherson struts in front and a multi-link in the rear will initially be rear-wheel drive, but presumably, customers will be offered four-wheel drive cars with a separate electric motor on the front axle. According to rumors, the novelty will receive batteries with a capacity of 58 or 73 kWh (354 and 450 km).

A hatchback with a plastic body kit in a circle and increased ground clearance is built on a new rear-wheel drive modular platform E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform). The highlight is the latest generation traction batteries operating under voltage up to 800 V and supporting charging up to 350 kW. If you use a charger with such indicators, then in five minutes it will be possible to fill the batteries with energy for 100 kilometers. In this case, it will be possible to charge the battery by 80% in 18 minutes. And also thanks to bidirectional V2L (vehicle-to-load) technology, it will be possible to connect electrical appliances with a power of up to 3.5 kW to the car.
