The first transgender woman in the country to read news

The private channel Boishakhi Television has taken an exceptional initiative in the month of March and the golden jubilee of independence. For the first time, transgender woman Tasnuva Annan read the news on this television.

Baishakhi TV authorities say that the key to Bangladesh’s independence was the liberation of the people of the country, building a livable, non-discriminatory society for all. Despite many achievements to be proud of in the 50 years of independence, it has not been possible to ensure a non-discriminatory and secure life for all. Transgender people are one of the biggest neglected populations. They have to accept deprivation and neglect in family, social and even state.

The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various initiatives to establish the dignity and rights of these neglected citizens. They now have the right to register their names in the voter list not only as women or men but also as direct transgender people. The government is also giving allowances to a large number of hijras.

Dulal Khan, Public Relations Officer, Boishakhi Television, said, “This year, on the eve of Boishakhi Television’s golden jubilee of Independence, in the month of Independence, we have added two transgender women to our channel’s news and drama. This is the first time that people in the country will see a transgender woman reading the news in a professional news bulletin. This has never happened before in the 50 years of independence. The name of this transgender woman is Tasnuva Annan Shishir. She will present the first news bulletin on International Women’s Day on Monday, March 8, 21.

“Similarly, we’ve added another transgender woman to one of the main characters in our entertainment department’s regular dramas,” she said. Whose name is Nusrat Mau. She will be seen on screen for the first time on International Women’s Day on the same day, in an episode of the serial “Chapabaaz”. From March 8, Tasnuva Annan will also read the news regularly.
