Hyundai reveals new details about the IONIQ 5. The model has a spacious interior, made of environmentally friendly materials.

“IONIQ 5 is a design statement – a vision of the benefits that customers will enjoy in the new EV era,” said SangYup Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Global Design Center. “Due to the long wheelbase, the interior has been designed as a special place to relax, your home when you are not at home.”

IONIQ 5 is the first electric model in the range to use the Hyundai Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). Due to the location of the battery, the E-GMP architecture ensures a long wheelbase, helping to maximize interior space. The flat surface allows the creation of an open space, with multiple configuration possibilities, for the comfort of passengers and for luggage transport.

The world premiere of IONIQ 5 will take place on February 23, 2021, in an online event

The driver and passengers can easily get in / out of the cab on either side, even if the vehicle is parked in a narrow place, as the flat floor allows the center console to slide forward / backward. The center console has been reinterpreted to become more than a static storage compartment. The new “Universal Island” concept thus becomes the main part of the cabin.

IONIQ 5 is equipped with electrically adjustable front seats. In addition, passengers in the second row can enjoy generous space for a comfortable trip.

Sustainability has always been a source of inspiration for Hyundai. Therefore, environmentally friendly materials were used for the development of the IONIQ 5 model. An ecologically processed leather treated with flaxseed oil extracts was used for the upholstery of the seats.

The other surfaces in the passenger compartment are covered with textile material made of sustainable fibers, such as: organic sugar cane components, wool yarns, etc. Also, for the dashboard, buttons, steering wheel and for the door panels, bio-polyurethane paint was used, made of rapeseed and corn flower oils.
