The first “German highway” in Romania will open until Christmas

“The embankments have been completed and work is being done on laying asphalt layers on the roundabout area near the Giurgiu customs point. Place the median parapet and install the anti-glare system. Next week, the road markings and the vertical signaling will be made “, the secretary of state announced.

According to specialists, it is the first “German highway” in Romania because the expressway was made of road concrete, which was laid by continuous casting. Technical data show that up to 1,300 cubic meters of concrete were poured per day.
The road will be used by drivers leaving Romania or coming from Bulgaria.

„The connecting road DN 5 km 60 + 500 – Ring Road – Friendship Bridge km 61 + 400, in length 5.72 km, aims to ensure the road connection between DN5 and the Giurgiu border crossing point. It detaches from DN 5, at km 56 + 197, through a roundabout and continues to the south, intersecting with DN 5 and DJ 507, through another roundabout at km 62 + 404. The road reaches the roundabout from the customs point through Unirii Street, being executed in 4 lanes, two on each direction, with the same structure as the detour variant ”, explained Irinel Ionel Scriosteanu.

The works started in October, 2021, and cost 106.6 million lei, without VAT. Funding was provided from non-reimbursable European funds.
