Galatasaray University Sociology Department faculty member Prof. Dr. The book compiled by Ali Ergur was prepared both as an attempt to reveal what happened in a difficult struggle with all its nakedness and as a sign of respect to healthcare professionals.
In the team of the first research, which was organized with physicians and nurses, among the two studies included in the book that came out of Raskolnikov Book, chest diseases specialist Dr. Göksel Altınışık Ergur, sociology graduate and students Cansu Çobanoğlu, Şadiye Nuhoğlu, Nurdila Eryıldız, Merve Şengül were included in this team for the second research examining the resignations and retirements of doctors. Nazlı Çetin and Dr. Pınar Bostan attended.
Making a statement about the book, Prof. Ali Ergur said that the findings of the two studies included in the book “The pandemic is both a catalyst and functions as litmus paper because it forces individuals to make sharp choices”.
Ergur said the following: “Among the healthcare professionals participating in the struggle, an integration, solidarity, and attention paid to the other, resulting from fighting a difficult war, has been observed. In this sense, the employees of the Covid clinic, organized like an organism, also gave up their private lives to a large extent. The physicians who resigned were those who were crushed and exhausted under this heavy material and moral burden. One of the important consequences of the pandemic on healthcare professionals is the obligation to stay away from family members, especially their children. Healthcare worker parents and children, who sometimes had to stay in separate spaces (room, house, district, city), had traumatic psychological experiences. It has been observed that there are many people who have psychological problems and have to get support. The Covid struggle has caused sharp divisions, new knowledge and practices, and new norms in the field of medicine, as it does in every part of society. “
