The European Commission has launched an investigation into unjustified subsidies, including Babiš’s companies

January 12, 2021

The Czech Republic issued two calls for a total of € 73.4 million to restructure and build orchard irrigation and crop and livestock insurance, which the Commission approved as primarily to support small and medium-sized enterprises.

On closer inspection, however, it found that the Czech government had even distributed aid to large farms, which it had so wrongly classified as small farms.

Tomáš Zdechovský, a spokesman for the European People’s Group, claims that the state can, under certain conditions, also give support to large companies. “But comparative analyzes of the impact of what would have happened if the companies had not received aid must be provided, which was not the case. The Commission has therefore opened another in-depth investigation with the Czech Republic, “says Tomáš Zdechovský (KDU-ČSL), MEP, who is the coordinator of the European Parliament’s Control Committee, exclusively for EuroZprávy.cz.

The member of the Committee on Budgetary Control is satisfied with his efforts. “The Commission’s inquiry is further proof of what we came up with last year’s European Parliament mission. The system of granting agricultural subsidies in the Czech Republic goes to large agricultural conglomerates at the expense of the small enterprises for which it is intended. “

The vice-chairman of KDU-ČSL will contact the body. “I will ask the European Commission to inform us in the coming days of the extent of the detected irregularities and the time schedule in which, unfortunately, the Czech Republic will deal with it several times already,” adds Zdechovský.
