The EU grants Ukraine aid of 500 million euros for education, housing and agriculture

This funding, announced by the European executive on the sidelines of a meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Council in Brussels, attended by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denîs Shmîgal, is part of the European commitments announced in the spring of this year.

This is the 8th EU-Ukraine Association Council and the first since Ukraine obtained the status of an EU candidate country in June.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister met with the Vice-President of the European Commission, Maros Sefcovic, with whom he discussed “the consolidation of sanctions against Russia and the integration of Ukraine into the EU energy market”.

Denîs Şmîgal pleaded, on his Telegram account, for “the introduction of a total energy embargo against Russia”.

“Ukraine’s electricity exports can replace considerable volumes of Russian gas imports,” said the head of the Ukrainian government. “Until now, the commercial capacity amounts to 300 megawatts, while our export capacity is up to 2,000 megawatts”, said Denîs Şmîhal.

“Ukraine has the largest underground gas storage facilities and could become the ‘gas vault’ of Europe,” he emphasized. “After obtaining the status of a candidate country (to the EU), the Ukrainian government aspires to accelerate the integration on the EU energy market”, said Denîs Şmîgal.
