A huge hole about 60 meters in diameter appeared in a field in the Mexican city of Santa Maria Zacatepec and threatened to “swallow” a nearby house.
The governor of the Mexican federal state of Puebla, Miguel Barbosa Huerta, said at a press conference that the hole first appeared on Saturday and was 20 meters deep.
The governor added that the family living in the house next to the hole was evacuated and that no one was injured so far.

“The diameter of the hole was initially five meters, and in the following hours it increased significantly,” said Beatrice Manrique, the Minister of Environmental Protection in Puebla.
She said that they believe that the appearance of the hole was due to two things – cultivating the soil and pumping water.
“Both activities lead to softening of the soil,” added Manrike.
A group of experts from several public institutions will investigate the appearance of the abyss, and the process will last for a maximum of 30 days, RTS reports.
The hole first appeared on Saturday and is constantly being filled with water.
