Prague – The District Court for Prague 1 will today hear a dispute between the heirs of the late lawyer Zdeněk Altner and the CSSD government party. According to the original verdict, which was annulled by the Supreme Court, the Social Democracy was to pay the heirs over 300 million crowns for legal services provided by Altner in the dispute over her seat, the People’s House. The CSSD denies the claim.

The agreement on representing the CSSD was concluded with Altner in 1997 by the then head of the party, the current president Miloš Zeman. The Social Democracy subsequently succeeded in the dispute over the People’s House.

The district court awarded Altner 18.5 million crowns for his services and also a contractual fine of 318 million, but the judgment was overturned by the Supreme Court. In the decision, he stated that the contractual arrangement for remuneration for Altner for legal services was not sufficiently specific. According to him, it is also not clear what exactly the lawyer did for the party. Altner has already died, and his descendants Patrik and Veronika are now claiming rewards.

On the agenda of today’s meeting is the interrogation of four witnesses, including Barbora Snopková, who at the time took care of the Social Democrats for the party treasury, or notary Václav Halbich, who last year convicted 16.8 million crowns.
