Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan MP has said that the work of the railway line up to Cox’s Bazar will be completed by December 2022 and direct train from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar will be launched.
The Railway Minister made the announcement while laying the foundation stone of the iconic railway station building in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday (December 14).
He said the project is scheduled to run until June 2022, but with the remaining six months in hand, I am announcing that people will be able to come to Cox’s Bazar by train next year.
Speaking on the occasion, the Railway Minister said that Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is giving importance to the neglected railway sector and is developing it extensively. He has made a separate ministry. There are many projects underway in the railways now. The work of restructuring the railways has been started since 2011.
He added that two of the ten mega projects of the government are Bangladesh Railway. One of which is the construction of a new railway line from Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar.
Regarding the project, he said that in the future, it will be taken from Cox’s Bazar to Gundum near Myanmar via Ramu and which will be extended to China. The minister mentioned that if the Cox’s Bazar railway line is launched, there will be a huge expansion of tourism. The tourism sector will play an important role in the progress of the country. He further mentioned that this project is being carried out as planned. The iconic station building will have an international dimension and will attract a large number of domestic and foreign tourists. All the facilities of international standard are being kept in this iconic building.
It may be mentioned that an oyster-shaped railway station building is being constructed in Cox’s Bazar at a cost of Tk 215 crore. All facilities will be kept in this 6-storey building.
