the DGT hunts more than 5,000 in just seven days

At this point, it seems difficult to travel in a car or a van without using the seat belt. With the amount of information showing that this simple device saves lives, not putting it on seems foolish, not to mention stupid.

And even being aware of what important, easy and fast which is to put on a seat belt, many of those who decide not to use it end up giving in simply because they can’t stand the annoying beeps that any relatively modern car emits when someone does not put it on.

Not just the belt

Be that as it may, it is easier to use the belt than not to. And the logical thing is to think that in the middle of 2023 there should be no one who gets into a car and does as the seat belt does not exist. But, one thing is logic, and another is reality.

And the truth is that, if the DGT continues to launch special campaigns to monitor and control the use of seat belts, it is because they are necessary. And, although it is even more difficult to believe, the DGT must also focus on the use of child restraint systems.

You only have to look at the figures left by the last campaign of this type carried out by the DGT. Between March 6 and 13, the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, with the help of local and regional police, sanctioned 5,089 adults for not wearing a seat belt.

Of those sanctioned, 2,871 were drivers, 1,122 passengers occupying the front seats and 1,096 passengers traveling in the rear seats. Worst of all is that, far from being a problem that is going less, they are higher figures than those left by the previous edition of this campaign.

76% of those penalized, that is, 7 out of 10, traveled by conventional roadsthe roads where the most fatalities are recorded and, therefore, the most dangerous.

But that is not all. In the same campaign, agents detected 316 children with a height equal to or less than 135 cm who were traveling without using the mandatory child restraint systems for these passengers.

249 of these children traveled in the rear seats without a seat and 67 in the front seats, despite the fact that last year the Traffic and Road Safety Law raised to 4 the points that are lost for not using the appropriate child restraint system or do it incorrectly. These are the same points that are lost for not wearing a seat belt.
