Out of 105 brickfields in Cox’s Bazar district, 62 are illegal. The Department of Environment has finally started a campaign to stop these illegal brickfields.
The raid was carried out in the Huaikeng area on Wednesday (January 13th) under the leadership of Senior Assistant Secretary and Executive Magistrate of the Department of Environment Sadiqur Rahman Sabuj. 7 illegal brickfields were demolished and a fine of Tk 36 lakh was imposed.
The matter was confirmed in a press release signed by RAB-15 Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdullah Mohammad Sheikh Saadi today.
AHB Bricks (Howaikong) got Rs 10 lakh, MKB (Howaikong) got Rs 6 lakh, ARB (Howaikong) got Rs 6 lakh, SMB (Deinggakata) got Rs 7 lakh, MRB (Howaikong) got Rs 3 lakh, PBC (Howaikong) got Rs 10 lakh. Who was fined Rs 6 lakh. Earlier on Monday (January 11), three illegal brickfields were demolished in Ramu area and a fine of Tk 6 lakh was imposed.
The Department of Environment has said that the crackdown on illegal brick kilns will continue. Members of the local environment department, RAB, police and fire brigade were present in the operation.
