The date of the inauguration of the Brăila bridge remains “in principle the same” and probably the European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira, the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, as well as officials from Japan will come to the inauguration, the Minister of Transport announced on Tuesday and Infrastructure, Sorin Grindeanu, at the Parliament Palace.

He stated that he will go to Brăila in the next few days to personally see the stage of the works. Grindeanu stated that a team from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure visited the construction site at the end of last week and when they returned they informed him that in principle the announced date will be maintained.

“I will also go in the next period, regardless of changes in the government, etc., because I want to see what is happening there myself. I was also informed that Commissioner Ferreira will probably also come, if we succeed, at the inauguration, probably Deputy Prime Minister Salvini will come from Italy – I spoke with him directly – Commissioner Ferreira has shown her intention, there will probably be officials from Japan as well. But, all these things must be organized. Why did we give that date? (June 27 – no). I won’t hide from you: precisely to put a certain pressure in a positive sense on the builders, that from December became February, from February became April, from April to May and from May to June. With the visit that do in the next days in Brăila, I will be able to tell you exactly. A team from the Ministry of Transport was there on Thursday or Friday and I had a meeting with them on the way back and they told me that in principle the date will be kept of June 27. Of course, in the next period, there will be times when, let’s say, there will be certain works, for example, dismantling of scaffolding on the four pillars, things of this type, which will probably not lead to the closure of traffic on the bridge, but possibly at the closure of a path. That’s why, from my point of view, I would approach the opening of traffic on the bridge as quickly as possible, even if there will be moments of this type”, said the minister.

On April 21, in a press conference, the head of Transport announced that the Brăila bridge will be inaugurated around June 27 on the Măcin version, with the Jijila version expected to be ready by the end of the year.

He stated that he conveyed to the Italian builder – Webuild (formerly Astaldi) – that he would invite the Minister of Transport from Italy to this inauguration, with the idea of ​​putting pressure on him.

The National Road Infrastructure Administration Company announced on March 15, 2023, on its Facebook page, that the physical stage of the works on the bridge is 93.4%, and that of the works on the connecting roads is 60%, the physical stage of the entire project being of 91.9%.

The contractor of the work “Suspended Bridge over the Danube” is the Webuild SPA Association – IHI Infrastructure Systems CO LTD, the value of the contract being 2.375 billion lei including VAT.

The length of the bridge is 1,974 meters, of which 1,120 meters represent the central opening, to which are added two lateral openings of 489 meters on the shore from Brăila and 364 meters on the shore from Tulcea. When completed, it will be the third bridge in Europe in terms of central span and length.

The length of the main Brăila – Jijila road is 19,095 kilometers, and the length of the connecting road with DN22 Smârdan – Măcin is 4,328 kilometers.

Also, the works on the Galaţi – Brăila Expressway have reached a physical stage of 50%, and the Romanian contractor has started pouring the asphalt carpet in the turning area at km 1+524 (connection with the connecting road from the Brăila Bridge), announced on April 3 by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, on his Facebook page.
