According to the travel agencies (TAs) contacted, the interest in buying summer tours in advance sales, the so-called first minute, is considerable. Many Czechs are planning to spend their summer holidays in Turkey, where it was not possible to travel last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Traditionally, there is a high demand for Greece, with Bulgaria and Egypt also at the forefront of sales.
For example, according to its spokesman Petr Kostka, CK Exim Tours is watching in January for first-minute tours comparable interest last year, when sales have not yet been affected by the coronavirus crisis. According to him, people demand mainly Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Tunisia, but also Spain and Italy. Due to the high demand, Exim Tours, according to Kostka, extended the most advantageous purchase conditions until 15 January, he said.
The Fischer Travel Agency is also following considerable interest in first-minute tours. “The current numbers of pre-sales suggest that this year we could reach 60 percent of the total in 2019. As in previous years, families with children are currently shopping, who want to take advantage of benefits and at the same time secure seats in popular hotels that are adapted for stays with children, “said travel agency spokesman Jan Bezděk. According to him, the preferences regarding destinations do not change much compared to previous years. The Turkish Riviera remains at the forefront of interest, as do the Greek and Spanish islands.
Thousands of summer trips sold are also reported by the travel agency Invia. According to her spokeswoman Andrea Řezníčková, sales were the strongest so far in December, according to her, people probably gave stays as gifts for Christmas more than other years. “I am convinced that January will win sales compared to December at the end of the month. We expect an increase in the second half of January. This is always the case, clients know that the best offers are valid until the end of January,” she said. For summer holidays, Greece leads to Invie, where 35 percent of clients are going, followed by Turkey, followed by Bulgaria and Egypt.
Customers of CK Čedok want to spend their summer holidays most often on the Greek islands of Crete and Rhodes, then in Turkey on the Turkish and Aegean Riviera or in Spain. Bulgaria is also in the forefront, said travel agency spokeswoman Eva Nemeckova. Among the sightseeing tours are the best-selling circuits and extended weekends in France and Italy. As in previous years, Egypt is the most popular of air sightseeing tours.
Due to the pandemic, the TA adjusted the contractual conditions. For example, some offer free cancellation 30 days before departure without giving a reason and require only low deposits. For clients, they have PCR tests at a discounted price or even pay for them. For some tours, people can get additional covid-19 supplementary insurance free of charge.
Many people use vouchers for last year’s canceled tours for their summer holidays. In the case of Čedok, it is currently a quarter of clients.
