Prague – The Czech Republic reopened the consulate general in Lviv, western Ukraine, after two months. The office currently operates to a limited extent, it informed today twitter Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Czech consulate was closed by the Czechia after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as was the embassy in Kiev. The activities of the embassy were resumed in mid-April.

The Czech Consulate General in Lviv has so far operated to a limited extent, without providing visa services. “The main tasks of our team will now be consular assistance to the citizens of the Czech Republic and monitoring of the situation on the ground,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Czech diplomacy informed about the closure of the Lviv consulate for security reasons on February 25, the day after the start of the Russian attack. Due to the closure of the Czech Embassy in Kiev, temporary consular offices in Przemyśl, Košice, and Uzhhorod took over the provision of consular assistance to Czech citizens in Ukraine. A small team of employees from Košice commuted to Uzhhorod. Among other things, it was the deputy ambassador to Kiev or the consul general from Lviv.

The activities of the embassy in Kiev were resumed in mid-April. Shortly afterwards, the embassies in Uzhhorod, Košice and Przemyśl were closed.
