The court imposed on the former director of the Hygiene Station of the Capital City of Prague, Jan Jarolímek, a two-year probation and a fine of half a million. This was stated on Tuesday by Lukáš Svrček, a judge of the District Court for Prague 1. The case concerns the blackmail of a subordinate, the verdict is not final. The Message List server alerted you of the shift in the case.
Jarolímek’s co-defendants – former economic head of Prague hygiene Radim Bureš and former director of the economic and operational activities department Zdeněk Vališ – have not yet received a verdict. The judge said that he had ruled out their criminal proceedings for a separate hearing.
The indictment alleges that the trio blackmailed an older colleague who was under control of the restaurant. The men allegedly wanted him to pay them financial contributions on a regular basis and advised him to take the money from the owners of controlled businesses. The employee did not accept the corruption and gradually gave the men 95 thousand crowns from his own. He said in court that he was afraid he would lose his job otherwise. However, he recorded the trio in cooperation with the Anti-Corruption Foundation, and it is these recordings that provide key evidence.
Men deny guilt and question the credibility of a key witness. Among other things, they stated that its aim was to take control of the institution by removing its director.
Bureš previously headed the legal and legislative department of the National Security Office and under President Václav Klaus headed the security department of the presidential office. He later worked as a security director at the Ministry of Health. Vališ also worked at the same ministry.
