A young man named Shant (20) committed suicide by jumping under a moving train in Vijayanagar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Akhaura-Sylhet railway line. The incident took place at Chanpur village in Paharpur union of the upazila around 3pm on Saturday (March 7). The deceased was identified as Shant, son of Hamdu Miah of the village. Another young woman named Mahmuda (18) was seriously injured in the incident. He was sent to Dhaka in critical condition. Mahmuda is the daughter of Morshed Miah of the same village.

Citing eyewitnesses and locals, Paharpur Union Parishad chairman Mohammad Abul Kalam said there was a love affair between Shant and Mahmudar. In the afternoon, Shant and Mahmuda jumped together under the Sylhet-bound intercity Jayantika Express train in front of their house. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. Shant died on the spot after being cut in the train. Mahmuda, who was seriously injured in the incident, has been sent to Dhaka in critical condition. Shantar’s body has been kept in his house.

Akhaura Railway Police Officer in Charge (OC) said. Mazharul Karim said police were sent to the spot after receiving the news. Necessary legal action will be taken after knowing the details.
