The corona crisis does not appear to have resulted in more divorces

The number of divorces has risen sharply last year compared to the year before.

On the other hand, the number of divorces has been on a par with the average number of divorces over the previous ten years.

It shows an inventory from Statistics Denmark.

In round figures, there have been 15,700 divorces last year. That’s a 49 percent increase over the year before, when 10,530 couples divorced.

It should be noted that the number of divorces in 2019 has been significantly lower than it has been over the past 50 years. Previously, there has been speculation as to whether the introduction of new divorce rules may have affected the figure for 2019.

Regardless, Statistics Denmark estimates that due to the significantly lower number of divorces in 2019, it gives a better picture of the development in 2020 if one compares the number of divorces with the average of the previous ten years.

“The number of divorces in 2020 is on a par with the average number of divorces over the previous ten years.”

“It thus does not appear that the covid-19 pandemic has affected the divorce trend in 2020,” Statistics Denmark writes in its statement.
