The construction of the suspension bridge that will connect the Old Town with the Zlatibor road has begun

Works have begun that will prepare the ground for the construction of a bridge that would provide access to the Užice fortress from the direction of Zlatiborski put. In addition to the access road, a pedestrian bridge is also planned which will come to the lower belt of the Old Town.

Geomechanical tests are underway, and it is estimated that the works will cost 15 million dinars, of which 10 million provided Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications.

Drilling works will be completed by the end of the year, while all tests will be completed by May next year.

– Drilling is being done from the side of the Old Town, where drilling is performed completely, and after that the anchors will be completely pressed and completely tested for tearing, which will enable precise data and watertightness of the rock in that part of the Old Town, as well as all those characteristics that are necessary for the designer to complete the project documentation. Along with these works, preparations are being made across the field, ie the access road – he told TV First Director of the Public Enterprise Uzice development Nikola Maksimović.

The bridge that will connect the Old Town with the Zlatibor road will be a suspension bridge, 105 meters long and three meters wide.

– This documentation envisages the construction of access paths after the bridge, complete lighting, feasibility study, environmental protection – all those documents that are necessary to complete the project of the future bridge – added Maksimović.

By the way, about 70 million dinars have been invested in the reconstruction of the Old Town so far, which was provided by the Republic, the City and the US Embassy.

– A complete reconstruction, conservation of all walls was done and we finished two floors of the tower. New projects are being made, we will not stop with this. We are working on a project for a water tower and another lookout which will be ready by the end of the year – said the assistant mayor of Uzice Dragoljub Stojadinovic.

The access road will also have a third lane, which will lead to a new lookout, and a parking space for four buses and 30 cars is planned. From the new lookout to the Lower Town, the bridge will be reached on foot.
