The Chinese concern Gili landed in our country with an electric vehicle at market-breaking prices

Lesson in geometry

Another new electric car brand has landed in our small country, as well as a new electric model. Compact recreational vehicle, which goes by the name Geometry C. A good recreational vehicle, even very good, with a real electric range of 450 kilometers and a market-breaking price – starting at NIS 133,900. But this composition is a small story within a large, global picture, reflecting the era in which we live.

The new electric car maker is Geely, a huge, renowned Chinese company that eats medium-sized car companies, as well as large companies, for breakfast. It is the largest private car maker in China, which in 2010 bought Volvo, thus doing the Swedes an excellent service: Volvo received a huge economic boost and released good models – and the sales charts do not lie.

Geely also acquired Polstar, Volvo’s sports and performance division, Lotus, Link & Co. and more. Geely also owns about 10% of Daimler Mercedes, and 50% of the Smart brand.

Gili is a forward-looking and side-by-side concern, investing huge capital in every hot field in the automotive industry – shared transportation, smart transportation, alternative energy, automation, safety systems and more. It develops and manufactures for itself the various systems in vehicles or a brochure for the largest manufacturers in the field.

Missing chips in the world? No problem, we are opening chips at one of our five research and development centers around the world. Until then, we’ll be hooked up with Taiwanese chip giant Foxconn. Do we want autonomous vehicles? Hi Baidu (Chinese Internet giant, the “Google of China”), let’s cooperate, bring the technology, and we will make you autonomous cars.

Gili is the car brand sold in China for four years in a row, and the company is on the list of the top ten car groups in the world, with the brand value, according to the British Finance Brand. In 2021, the year of Corona, it reduced the production of two million vehicles of all its brands, thanks to 50,000 of its employees and the 12 factories it owns.

And there is also a new electric vehicle to talk about. Gili representatives who jumped to Israel for the brand and car launch event, including company CEO Michael Song, arrived a few days later, after which they will return to China, where they will stay for a month in isolation.

This shows how important it was for this distinguished delegation to attend an event in Israel. The Israeli car market has the potential for experiments with electric vehicles that can test how new electric vehicles work, what their quality is and what their economic viability is. From here, once the conclusions are drawn and lessons learned, it will be possible to choose the models that will be sold across Europe.

Geometric C is Gili’s first complete electric model, marketed outside China, for the international market. The first model to emerge from the giant power comes directly to us, the first in the world. It is a 4.4-meter-long recreational vehicle with a 2.7-meter wheelbase, which competes with the electric Kia Niro, the 2008 Peugeot in the electric version, and the popular MG ZS EV, and sits on a large and significant market segment.

Geometric’s starting point is very good. Before his many virtues, he has a back in the form of a strong concern and importer – Geo Mobility, from the Union Group (importer of Toyota in Israel). Union Motors brings with it the charging solutions – EV EDGE, which it owns, for its customer service and experience. And there is also a leasing, trade-in company, spare parts, agents, garages and customer service – all that is left now is to sell.

Geely Geometric C has a very nice design. Looking at the front and also the sides, one can get confused and think that this is another electric model from Hyundai. Its uniqueness is mainly expressed in the rear design. It has impressive removable handles on the outside, with the GEELY brand signature on them, and the cab and passenger compartment are spacious, cozy and designed in a modern, technological and luxurious way.

Throughout the vehicle are geometric touches, in the shape of a hive, and the seats have light fabric upholstery, which I really liked. The multimedia system in the center of the car brings together a wealth of amazing advanced systems, from a 360-degree camera with the option of sharp and accurate photography, recording of the trip from any angle and saving previous recordings (up to a week back), to a quality road camera.

The advanced safety systems can be switched on and off by pressing, and there is an option to adjust the steering wheel and braking mode (three regeneration levels). Also, there are three driving modes: the standard Echo, Sport, which accelerates the vehicle forward and sharpens the engine performance, and the Echo Plus, which is an “emergency” mode, where, God forbid you are left with a limited driving range and there is another way ahead, or the vehicle will shut down any system A possible tram that may bite you in the range.

The multimedia system has a 12.3-inch touch screen and an English-speaking system, which will go through transgressions later. Underneath are small switches for effective climate control operation, one that you can turn on and enjoy, without hurting your driving range. I loved the ability to set and match almost anything to the wishes of the driver and passengers. The ambient and audio lighting are also adjusted and vary depending on the vehicle speed. For example, the vehicle lighting will quickly turn red, and the volume will decrease with deceleration and stopping.

The geometric electric motor has a power of 204 hp, 31.6 kg, which is mated to one gearbox, and accelerates to 100 km / h in 7.7 seconds. I enjoyed driving, especially after turning off the lane keeping system, which did not work optimally and created Resistance that interfered with driving. I set the NORMAL steering wheel position, standard driving mode and regeneration mode, energy recovery at deceleration – HIGH, so I barely touched the brakes. Reasonable, coming from the road, through Michelin tires on 18-inch rims, into the car.

Bottom line: Geometric C brings with it a long and respectable specification of everything you could ask for yourself and more. High power, good performance, full European standard, advanced safety systems (Israeli rating 7), high score in strict crash tests of the safety organization C CUP, realistic electric driving range of 450 kilometers, and a price starting at NIS 133,900 for the reduced battery version C350, and – NIS 142,900 for the C460 battery version, a version that will also include an electric direction for the passenger seat and an overhead display system.

By the end of the year, buyers of Gili’s electric car will also receive a home charging station and a quick charge cable. Gili wants to be first in everything, as well as the leading brand in the country, and with such a successful first model, and more electric models on the way, she certainly can be.

• The battery comes with a warranty of eight years or 150,000 miles. It is possible to extend the warranty on the battery for ten years, or up to 200,000 kilometers.
• Car care once a year (including mainly diagnosis and general examination).
• Slow charging time (11 kilowatts, three-phase), about six hours; Fast charging DC, 20% – 80%, will take about half an hour. If your time is short, know that a range of 100 kilometers will be achieved in 13 minutes of fast charging. 

The eighth Smart Transport Conference 2021 will be held at the David Intercontinental Hotel in Tel Aviv, November 8-9. This year, too, the global event will include more than 5,000 participants from 60 countries, and will present a diverse list of senior speakers: Mobilai President and CEO Amnon Shashua, Christian Sanger, VW board member and head of the group’s autonomous driving, Hildegard Muller, union president German automakers Yossi Matias, vice president at Google and head of artificial intelligence, Yunseung Wang, head of innovation at Hyundai and more.

Toyota’s first electric vehicle unveiled in a world premiere – Toyota bZ4X full electric crossover (SUV), with 4×4 all-wheel drive system, impressive performance by the manufacturer, solar panel on the roof, for additional battery power, and a declared driving range of over 450 kilometers. This is the first model launched under the new sub-brand of Toyota bZ – beyond Zero and in Hebrew translation “beyond zero”. The vehicle is expected to arrive in Israel in the second half of 2022.

The new Range Rover was unveiled for the first time around the world, in a new fifth generation, and it also includes for the first time a full electric version (pictured right). The new generation has incorporated the new MLA-Flex architecture, which provides a long wheelbase and, therefore, will be a seven-seater option. The driver’s and passenger compartments will be upgraded, and will include air purification technology in the cabin, and road noise cancellation technology (Israeli development). The new Range Rover will arrive in Israel during the first quarter of 2022. The electric version will join the lineup of models (hybrids and plug-in hybrids) only in 2024.
