The Chamber of Deputies did not complete the debate on the government’s proposal for an additional increase in pensions from January by 300 crowns above the statutory valorisation on Friday. According to the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Jana Maláčová (ČSSD), the deputies could continue the second reading of the draft on Wednesday morning. There are already more than two dozen amendments to the amendment in the parliamentary system, so far MEPs have managed to introduce two of them.
The coalition of Pirates and Mayors wants to add 1,000 crowns to pensioners once. He wants to raise the money by amending the Conflict of Interest Act to prevent companies whose real owner is a member of the government from drawing on public money. The adjustment is aimed at Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) and the Agrofert holding.
“The advantage of the proposal is that it clearly names sources,” said the chairman of the pirate deputies, Jakub Michálek. “I understand, it’s an election campaign, you suddenly remembered retirees,” commented Milan Feranec from ANO on the piracy.
The opposition SPD, according to the movement’s member Lucie Šafránková, would add another 500 crowns to pensioners with pensions below 15,000 crowns. “However, at most so that after this increase the total amount of income from all pensions to which their individual recipient is entitled does not exceed 15 thousand crowns per month,” said Šafránková.
The amendment of the chairman of the KDU-ČSL, Marian Jurečka, to reduce the pensions of exponents of the former communist regime has already attracted attention.
According to legal rules, monthly pensions should increase by an average of 458 crowns from January, according to an earlier statement by Maláčová. According to the draft, another 300 crowns in addition should go to the meritorious part of the pension. The increase would thus be permanent and the amount would increase by a certain percentage each year during valorisation. At the end of this year’s first quarter, the average old-age pension was CZK 15,351. Next year it should be 16,195 crowns.
According to the documents, the additional addition would cost 10.6 billion crowns next year. A year later it would be 10.9 billion crowns and the following year 11.1 billion crowns.
According to the law, old-age, disability and survivors’ pensions have been increasing since January, by an increase in prices and half of the growth in real wages. Valorisation thus already reflects the rise in prices for a certain period and part of the increase in earnings. The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs justified the extraordinary addition in the documents to the amendment by stating that the expected growth in pensions will be lower than in recent years.
