The cement industry would be helped by the use of alternative fuels

Last year was very successful for the cement industry of Serbia: 2 million 600 thousand tons of cement were produced and sold, which is an increase of more than 10 percent over the previous year.

Thanks to high demand, 450 thousand tons of imported cement were sold. The main challenge for domestic cement workers this year is the import of energy, because more than half of high-calorie coal is imported from Russia and Ukraine.said the director of the Association “Cement Industry of Serbia” Dejana Milinković for RTV.

“The cement industry has been around for a long time advocates for the substitution of fossil fuels which this crisis has only confirmed is the right policy. “The cement industry is certainly among the most endangered because the supply chains from Russia and Ukraine are almost interrupted,” said Milinković.

The alternative fuels used by our industry by an average of 20 percent are not enough to ensure continuity in work, and market demands for cement are not reduced.

The interlocutor of RTV believes that they have to try together with the state to change the national regulatory framework governing waste imports, ie to provide an opportunity for not only the cement but also the entire energy-intensive industry in Serbia to use alternative fuels from the EU market.

This would reduce dependence on fossil fuels and the emissions emitted by fossil fuels.

For now, there are no fears of a shortage of cement on the marketat least when it comes to large national infrastructure projects.
