The cameras in the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will not be the same

This year’s premieres delight some, bore others. Customers looking for the news of their next smartphone look at various features of the devices, but when I personally face the choice, one factor turns out to be decisive.

In the fall, Apple will show new smartphones from the iPhone 15 line. There will be no version again mini, which did not provide adequate sales, and we will again see two Pro versions. Unlike the two previous generations, this time Apple is to once again introduce some differences between the Pro and Pro Max models, which will be explained primarily by the discrepancy in the size of the devices, but many people will see the desire to maximize earnings on a larger and more expensive variant . As the owner of the 12 Pro model, I have been replacing the device for some time, but the next two series (13 Pro and 14 Pro) did not have anything that would encourage me to change the smartphone. Okay, almost nothing.

I look at new models very closely and evaluate them for purchase on my own or relying on the opinions of others. Of course, aesthetic considerations, working time on a single charge or efficiency are important, but there is usually no revolution in these areas. The case with the capabilities of the cameras is completely different, because the race between smartphone manufacturers is most often reduced to this kind of duel. There are countless comparisons of photos and videos from top and cheaper models, and during the launch of a new model, including during grand conferences, each of the companies devotes a lot of time to the cameras. The progress we are witnessing is amazing, and to see it, it is enough to compare photos from older models at night, the possibility of zooming or image stabilization in video.

The iPhone 15 Pro seemed perfect

Of course, every year these steps forward are not so noticeable (with a few exceptions) and for this reason I did not feel the impulse to change the smartphone. Yes, the 13 Pro brought a lot of new features and improvements, and the 14 Pro made the photos from the 12 Pro a little less appealing to me, but the new generations of iPhones did not captivate me at all. So it turned out that I would stay true to my own individual smartphone replacement cycle every third generation of the iPhone. The first rumors, reports and leaks about the iPhone 15 Pro delighted me, because at the moment the vision of the new model seemed to coincide with most, if not all, of my expectations. Reality in recent weeks has verified my plans and unfortunately the 15 Pro may not be exactly what I was hoping for.

Of course, apart from the camera, I pay attention to other features of the smartphone and the appearance of the USB-C port or a slight change in the edge finish sound just great, but the iPhone 15 Pro may turn out to be castrated from some functions that may have appeared in it. The mute switch, fortunately, will become a multi-function button, but the volume and lock buttons will not be replaced by their immobile counterparts supported by haptic engines. Drama? Tragedy? Nightmare? By no means, but the announcements of a better camera only in the Pro Max variant sound disturbing, where a periscope lens offering a 6x zoom or more is to appear. There is no space for this type of lens in the 15 Pro, so the iPhone 16 Pro housing is expected to be slightly enlarged to compensate for this discrepancy in the capabilities of the cameras in … 2024.

Will Apple cut the same number again?

It seemed that Apple would not allow such numbers anymore, but probably this time they will get away with it. What frames I can capture with the camera is extremely important to me, but I am not and probably will not be ready to replace a fairly large phone with an almost tablet that I would carry in my pocket. Many users were delighted with the lack of significant differences between the iPhone 12/13 and 12/13 mini, as well as the 13 Pro (Max) and 14 Pro (Max). It is worth recalling that the company took a similar step to the expected step by Apple in 2020, when the 12 Pro Max had one better lens than those in the smaller 12 Pro.

Looking at how important photos and videos are for smartphone users, it should come as no surprise that manufacturers are extremely active in this respect and will also be ready for certain decisions that will allow them to increase their revenues.
