Renovation of the former building of the oncological hospital is included in the development strategy of the Daugavpils neuropsychiatric hospital and is being considered in terms of merging with a similar hospital Akniste. The Ministry of Health, together with the management of the hospital, is now deciding the issue of putting the building in order.

The building of the former oncology located at 24 Siguldas Street has been empty for a long time. In the spring of 2016, the Daugavpils municipality acquired an abandoned building for more than 350,000 euros, planning to create a branch of the city boarding house there. At the same time, about 35,000 euros was spent on the preparation of project documentation for the establishment of a boarding house.

True, last year the deputies decided to accept the proposal of the Ministry of Health to transfer the empty building of the former oncological hospital to him for further renovation and improvement of the territory.

At the moment, the management of the Daugavpils neuropsychiatric hospital is discussing with the Ministry of Health the possibility of restoring a long-empty building for their own needs.

For the implementation of this project, it is planned to attract funds from the structural funds of the European Union. Moreover, it takes a long time to prepare the necessary documentation, according to the leadership of the Daugavpils City Council.
