Pokljuka (Slovenia) – Czech biathletes started the World Championships in Pokljuka in eleventh place in the mixed relay. The quartet Michal Krčmář, Ondřej Moravec, Markéta Davidová, Lucie Charvátová tried in vain to defend last year’s bronze and after the unsuccessful last shooting they lost their place in the top ten.

Norway won gold medals for the third time in a row. The four-legged Sturla Holm Laegreid, Johannes Thingnes Bö, Tiril Eckhoff and Marte Olsbu Röiseland defeated Austria’s second relay by 27 seconds in the 4×7.5 km race. Bronze was won by Sweden.

Röiseland won the tenth title in her career and came second to Russia’s Jelena Golovin in second place in the history charts. Only German Magdalena Neunerová (12) has more gold medals among women. Johannes Thingnes Bö added the eleventh title to the collection and surpassed his brother Tarjei by one.

The Norwegians have confirmed their dominance in contemporary biathlon. In the relay, they placed the first two men and the first two women in the ongoing evaluation of the World Cup. “So what one would want. It is a reflection of their performance,” the Innkeeper commented on their actions.

He returned to the elite after a time of covide and the European Championship, and due to three top-ups on the standings in the second section, he did not improve the position of the Czech team much. “I think the section is good, except for the stand. I was unnecessarily hasty there, it flew to me everywhere. But I still need to evaluate it,” he said.

He moved the relay two places out of the eighteenth position, which Moravec handed him over. He took a minute short in the opening section. He lost a lot of time while lying down, even though he only recharged once. “I got a charge there, so I put it there twice. That time corresponded to more or less two recharged ones. My ancestor missed me, it’s a shame,” he lamented. At the age of 36, he tended to fight on the track. “We had great skis, I have to praise the service. But I didn’t feel well,” he said.

After the men’s sections, Davidová moved the Czechia to ninth place, charging only once while lying down. “Shooting is pretty cool for one of them. I hope I’ll start again, that I’ll do better next time. When you needed to overtake someone, you had to get off the track and it didn’t go very well next to it,” she said of the race behind heavy snow.

In addition, the women drove 7.5 kilometers this time instead of the usual six relays. “It was obvious, we’re not used to it. It’s different from sprinting, you try to commute something in that relay. When you run that sprint alone, you sort it out and go. It’s more treacherous here,” she said.

Then she watched as Finishwoman Charvátová aimed at two penalty rounds after standing up. “Last year was a happier thing to do …” David remarked.

In last year’s bronze line-up, Charvátová replaced Eva Puskarčíková, and as usual in the relays, spare ammunition was not enough. “I worked there a bit at the beginning with the position because the pads slid easily. But I didn’t think I was doing anything wrong,” she mused.

The Czechia lagged behind the winner by Norway by exactly three minutes. She finished the big event in a mixed relay race outside the elite ten for the first time since 2011, when she was also eleventh at the World Championships.
