Hubble was launched in 1990, and originally contained six gyroscopes (instruments used for space orientation) – at least three are needed for proper functioning. Over the years, Hubble gyroscopes have had a number of problems, and some of them have stopped working. However, the telescope still sends amazing scenes to the home planet.
Back in 1999, there were problems due to which the telescope was not in function for several weeks. During the Space Shuttle program, astronauts were able to visit Hubble and remove defective gyroscopes, so in 2009 all six were replaced.
