Chittagong South District Awami League general secretary Mofizur Rahman said a meeting of the Local Government Representative Nomination Board was held at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence Ganobhaban today to finalize the party’s candidates in the fourth phase of municipal elections.
It was presided over by Awami League Local Government Election Nomination Board President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Incumbent mayor Mohammad Jobayer has been re-elected as the party’s candidate in the Satkania municipality election at that meeting of the Nomination Board.
Mofizur Rahman also said that on behalf of the district Awami League, the current mayor Mohammad Jobayer, Chittagong South District Awami League Youth and Sports Affairs Secretary Golam Faruk Dollar and Bangabandhu Parishad Satkania branch president. Shafiqul Islam’s name was sent to the center. Among them, the current mayor Mohammad Jobayer has been given party nomination.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has announced the schedule for the January 3 Satkania Municipality elections. According to the announced schedule, polling for the municipal elections will be held on February 14.
Kamrul Hasan, Bandar Thana Election Officer of Satkania, said the last day for submission of nomination papers is January 18. Nomination papers will be selected on January 19, the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers on January 26 and polling on February 14. There are a total of 36,540 voters in 9 wards of Satkania Municipality. Of these, 19,622 are male and 16,917 are female voters.
