Hnanice (Znojmo) – Today, at its meeting in Hnanice in Znojmo, the Association of Regions of the Czech Republic will elect a chairman and vice-chairman after two years. In the last two years, South Bohemian Governor Martin Kuba (ODS) served as chairman, and according to the association’s spokesperson Hana Brožková, he will defend the position and it is unlikely that he would have an opponent.
The chairman of the association is elected by 14 governors. Two years ago, Cuba was unopposed and received 13 out of 14 votes. The current deputy chairman is Moravian-Silesian governor Ivo Vondrák (ANO).
Another topic that the governors will address today at the meeting is the budgetary allocation of taxes. This is a long-term issue that has not yet been satisfactorily resolved. Each region receives a given share from the collected taxes and this share does not change over the years. While the population of some regions, such as Central Bohemia and South Moravia, is increasing, the population of others, such as Moravian-Silesian, is decreasing. The amount of money per inhabitant that the regions receive varies considerably in some cases.
The association unites all regions in the Czech Republic and its task is to defend and promote their common interests.
