“It was an exercise in accelerating time and reconsidering the destiny of an artist’s work or the meaning of his work. It was a blow: I lost collected works for a long time, mostly unexposed (ten years of work in which, deliberately, I wanted to stay secluded), plus everything that means creative laboratory (tools, equipment, books, a familiar place , that oasis of space-time so necessary to the artist-the sacred space of creation). This exhibition is a metaphor for the transcendence of immediate understanding, seemingly painful and dramatic, towards a new higher level of understanding, a forced cleansing, a brutal restart, a strange type of release. Everyone will find themselves in this show of vulnerability doubled by new expressive meanings or possible new functions, ”says the artist.

The journey in the exhibition space will be accompanied by a video projection made in the destroyed workshop – a ritual interaction that presents the process of accepting and embracing reality with all that it brings, an attempt to distill feelings and extract a state of consciousness where beauty or understanding goes beyond everyday normalcy.

In addition to the image, the sound will guide the rhythm, the vibration of space. Anca Coller has also emphasized in the past the initiatory interaction that the public must have when experiencing art, the openness to transformative and revealing states that work in each individual, helping him to intuit answers to complex questions, to destroy blockages, to release. It is important to expose sensitive points where others can find themselves, each in his own way and can merge with the artist’s experience, connecting emotionally. Emotional understanding goes beyond the intellect-driven, or at least works in parallel with it. A second video will present a time lapse with images from the workshop and works made there in the last 10 years – a kind of remembrance of an existence before passing.

“Last but not least, I am interested in a position regarding the immediate reactions of people in connection with such incidents. I basically woke up suddenly in a nightmare, I can’t even live the mourning necessary to overcome this trauma. Everything is coldly synthesized in the sense of a news material. The emotional side is often ignored with all attention focused on finding culprits and resolving property damage. “The studio of an artist from Bucharest burned down today. The fire was fueled by the existence of flammable materials. ” The fire incident in my workshop is presented as a “case” that needs to be resolved, although for me the most important things related to this destruction are not solvable, the only overcoming being placed inside me as understanding, acceptance, integration. The only way I was able to go through this painful ordeal was to deeply interrogate the meanings and bring them to a clear path – the conscious continuation. ”, Adds Anca.

The art cell is represented by a space with street opening, which aims to allow the works to escape from the classic space of the gallery to interact with a new audience, who are not used to participating in openings and thus, because there is no physical and temporal barrier between the object of art and the viewer, a free, direct and non-conformist dialogue is created.

The gallery supports contemporary creation in the thematic areas of the visual arts and encourages the development of new forms of artistic expression accessible at any time for street audiences. With a presence of ~ 4 years (2017 – 2021) on the art scene in Bucharest, The art cell supported ~ 70 events (exhibitions, performances, live) and influenced the perception of the exhibition of objects or artistic acts in front of the public.
