The Pentagon relies on new observation and communication vehicles. For this purpose, the US Army has established cooperation with the Skydweller Aero company. She has built and successfully tests a solar drone that can float in the skies continuously for up to 90 days.

The vehicle was created on the basis of the famous Solar Impulse 2, a solar plane that flew around the entire planet in 2016, obtaining energy from solar panels to power its engines. This feat some time ago inspired the Pentagon to launch its project of such a vehicle.

Unlike Solar Impulse 2, the Skydweller will not be a manned ship, but a drone, thanks to which it was possible not only to reduce its weight, but also to allocate more space for efficient solar panels. Now the drone does not have to land for up to 3 months.

The Skydweller has a wingspan of up to 71 meters and is covered with photovoltaic cells with a total area of ​​269 square meters, which generate up to 2 kilowatts of energy. According to Aviation Today, it can carry up to 362 kilograms of equipment on board.

The US Army plans to use the entire fleet of such vehicles to observe enemy territory and with their help to provide fast communication in areas without such infrastructure. The Pentagon wants to combine space vehicles, airplanes, drones and land and sea vehicles into one coherent organism using artificial intelligence and fast communication technology.
